Club Narooma – Sun Jan 3

Club Narooma and live music go hand in hand.
It’s a great live music venue. In summer they have live music every night in Jan – 7 nights a week!
I’ve been playing here for years now.
Its a beautiful venue in a wonderful part of the world, the South Coast NSW.

This was the second date of a 4 date South Coast tour.
I took my amazing girlfriend Michelle and we had a great time in Narooma.

It was a rainy Sunday during a Covid scare so not as busy as a typical summery day.
I posted on facebook that i was playing solo here and my good friend Josh Manson from my band The Crowdies Show message me saying he was just up the road on holiday.
So I set up a mic and spare guitar for him and we did the entire gig as a duo.
Josh is an incredible harmony singer and just a great guy.

He bought his mum and their friends and his wife and daughter which made for a nice supportive audience.
Club Narooma is known as a live music venue because they have it all year round and a lot in summer.

The next day Michelle and I visited the quaint little town of Tilba. We bought incense and fudge and a hippie hat.
Then on the way back up the coast we stopped at one of my favourite coastal towns, Bodella.
I love the Hippie Sticks shop, its all tie -dye crazy clothes run by some cool old hippies.
I actually book some of the live music at Club Narooma via my agency Crazy Horse Entertainment and I like to send them to Hippie Sticks.
Many of them buy stuff.

Go and see the live music at Club Narooma.
The food is also spectacular and the staff are super friendly.

Huntlee Tavern – Sun Jan 10

Huntlee Tavern is a huge new hotel in Branxton.
First time i’d played here, booked by the amazing Chris Varley.

Its a country pub all on one level, very nicely renovated with a great stage for live music.
They have bands and solos and duos there every weekend.
There’s huge floor to ceiling windows providing an excellent view of a gorgeous country vista.

The staff are friendly, as are the audience of course because they are country people.
Super down to earth and just down home and nice.

A table near me asked for the usual country hits and when I played Chicken Fried by Zac Brown Band, one guy at the near by table was suddenly in total glee and excitement.

He stood up dropped his pants and turned around to show me a 20cm tattoo on his thigh of Zac Brown’s face!
Nearby patrons showed a mix of horror at the half naked heavily tattooed man and sheer excitement for him at how happy he was that I was playing a Zac Brown song!

It was this guys birthday, he was a slat of the earth guy, requesting songs and he asked me to play an original if I had any.
I played one, my song form the 90’s that I had on radio in NZ, called Perfect Memory.
Mid song his partner came up and bought 2 cds.

I’m glad this big table of people were there, they were so enthusiastic and into the music it was just a great gig for me.
Amazing for a Sunday gig – which can often be very reserved and laid back.

Hopefully Mr Varley rebooks me again at the Huntlee Tavern, it was a great first gig in a new venue.

Plonk Beach Cafe – Sun Jan 17

Live Music at Plonk Beach Cafe – A beautiful day for this gig at a new venue for me. Actually I did a private function here in December and the manager Anna immediately booked me for the next available Sun date they had.

Anna and her partner who run the venue are so friendly and nice and they treated me especially well.
Food and drinks provided and hey were full of praise and any help or drinks service I needed whilst performing.

The audience were mixed groups of large families, couples and groups of all ages just enjoying the premium location and view right on the water next to the Marina at Spit Bridge, Mosman.

The spot I had was fully shaded and spacious at the Marina end of the deck.
The audience were so lovely and super polite, actually clapping after each song.
After the first set Anna came up and said it sounds great, we want to book you in for more Sundays!
What an honour, its such a great location for a summer gig.
Live music at the Plonk Beach Cafe is a regular thing in summer 2021.

The people are up market, polite and appreciative which really makes for a nice gig. live music is great but greater when people get involved and respond.

Plonk Beach Cafe music – is a genuine thing in summer every Sunday. The coffee is also great and the food pretty tasty.

Once guy at a table near the front was texting me requests for his father who was with him , he was Scottish and wanted anything Scottish – ish. so I hit them with Rod Stewart and some Snow Patrol.

The Plonk Beach Cafe is a classy venue I’d invite any potential client or guests or friends to.
I’m back once a month in Feb, Mar, Apr.

Gregory Hills Hotel – Sat Jan 23

Another fun gig at the Greggo.
Tonight was a duo with Aiden Danser on keyboards and harmonies.
It was Au day long weekend so it was definitely quieter than usual.

Thought there we’re still the usual suspects, big tables of people celebrating birthdays and perhaps just a Sat night out at the Gregory Hills Hotel.

The food is really good at the Gregory Hills Hotel.
All the pub classics and more, amazing salads, pizzas, steaks etc.
The kitchen is open late until 10pm on Fris & Sats.

We did 2 long sets then a shorter 3rd set.
Its tough for the audiences lately not being allowed to dance or even sing really.
They still holler at us to play the oz pop and rock classics and they want to dance and sing, but of course security are obliged to ask them to sit down.

The rebellious ones will dance on their way to the bathroom or bar, or at least sneak a few steps in, a little fancy footwork while they walk.

John Payne is a great Licencee and manager. He really treats the musicians well. This great hospitality really makes a difference and make musicians want to play there again and again.
His staff are grenat too, totally pro and polite.

Its a venue I’d definitely invite people to to come see me play as it’s a great up market venue, with great food, its female friendly , good security and friendly staff.
Go check out the Greggo!

I play here about once a month lately – check the gig guide for when I’m back.
Often Duo here, occasionally I’m solo.

Royal Hotel Camden – Fri Jan 22

Fri 22nd Jan – The Royal Hotel Camden.

A fun gig tonight, long weekend, au day so it was much quieter than usual. A few dinners in the restaurant, mostly older people and families, then the usual suspects were in the main bar, average age 18-30.

The Royal is a modern pub, very nicely renovated and they have really great pub food. And I must say pretty good coffee.

For an 8.30pm start its about 1 hour 10min drive each way which is great because for 7.30pm start with traffic it’s about 1 hour 40 min drive.

The love their music there, they have a soloist every Fri & Sat I believe, mostly local people. I fell honoured that i’m one of only 2 non local area guys that play there.

I play in the Camden area A LOT lately, 2 gigs this weekend in Camden.

A well known aussie band The Reubens are from the area and the bass player William is almost always there for dinner or to hang out. He is a cool guy and very supportive of the live music there.

I had the usual mad young local lad and ladies requesting ‘Horses’, ‘Flame Trees’, ‘Country Rds’ and Sweet Caroline. It doesn’t get much more pub rock that that.

The locals are really into their pub rock and of course being a rural area they LOVE the 2 main most popular country-ish songs to do in au, ‘Wagon Wheel’ & ‘Chicken Fried’
I’ve had a LOT of requests for ‘Luke Coombs’ in almost every rural area I’ve played lately. I must find his best au pub song to learn.

The staff at The Royal Hotel Camden are also so nice as are the security guys.
Always a pleasure to play The Royal and thanks to Rob Burns for the continued bookings here.
